5 New Facebook Features You Shouldn´t Miss!

1. Facebook Makes It Easier For Pages To Change Username

Facebook is making it easier to change the username of a Facebook Page. Before, you had to submit a request to change the username but now any administrator can change a Page´s vanity URL directly from the Page. Now, although you have more than 100 Likes, you are given the option to change the URL. But choose it wisely because you can change it only one single time. To do so, go to your Facebook Page, click “Edit Page”, then “Update Info”, fill in “Basic Information” and “Change Username”.

Unfortunately, you cannot change the overall name of the Page if you have more than 200 Likes.

2. Facebook´s iPhone App Should Be Faster

Buzz is spreading around Facebook´s iPhone app. The company´s engineers are said to be working on a much faster verison and that it should be released during summer. A visual redesign is not planned so it should look the same as you are used to. This udpate doesn’t come as a surprise since Facebook has 50% of all its users on mobile phones and it hit 488 million mobile users in May!

3. Search Instagram Photos By Hashtag Or Username

The Instagram app on iPhone got it´s first redesign after Facebook´s acquisition. Version 2.5 of the photo-sharing app didn´t overgo an extreme makeover but it does have a whole new tab – the “Popular” section that showed photos with the most Likes has been replaced by a new “Explore” tab. From now on, users can search by username or hashtag and look for pics from a particular event. Just imagine you are organizing a fundraising event, concert or discount weekend with everyone sharing photos from your event through hashtags.

Thanks to Facebook´s Open Graph, users can post all the photo Likes (little hearts on Instagram) to their Facebook accounts. Hopefully the Likes from three different locations: Timeline, Instagram and the picture itself will be concentrated into one location, thus giving the pictures a higher ranking and making them more popular.

Brand managers can also post directly to their Facebook Page without leaving the application.

4. Edit Your Comments

Have you ever posted a response to a fan with a grammar mistake, a mistype or incorrect information? Of course you have, it´s human. Before, the only way you could correct an error was to delete the comment and create a new one. But from last week, Facebook enables you to edit them direcly from the comment! The edit option appears in the form of a small pencil icon on the right side of your comment. Clicking on the pencil will bring up a drop-down menu with the option to edit your comment as well as the option to delete it entirely.

To preserve the context of the story after the changes, Facebook added an “Edited” button next to the “Like” under the comment. When you click on it, you will access the history of the conversation with all the adjustments.

5. Gain Control Over Who Is Posting

Did you ever want to post something to your Facebook Profile but instead you managed to post it to your business Page? Facebook announced that it´s making it easier for Page administrators to swith between Profiles and Pages. So next time you´re on your Page, you will see a tab just between the tab with your name and the Home tab called “Voice”. When you click on it, you will see a blue bar under the search box saying: “You are posting, commenting, and liking as NAME OF PAGE — change to PERSONAL USERNAME.”
